Out on Netflix now is the untold story of one crazy night in Hollywood. The recording of “We Are The World” is explored in The Greatest Night in Pop through archived footage and interviews with musicians who were there.

I remember singing “We Are The World” back during middle school. Specifically, my music teacher showed the most enthusiasm I had ever seen him have in conducting us. Getting to see the making of the song, from its inception to the heavy hitters who contributed in small or incredibly significant ways.

It was cool to see how each of the artists interacted with each other. Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan comes to mind with how Bruce was apprehensive due to Dylan’s star power and influence on Bruce’s career. It was great to hear from each of the artists about what the time was like, how hectic and long that night was to make the song. Michael Jackson had thrown his entire heart into the project, and the collaborative efforts he and others made to mix genres and inspire the world was exciting to see.

It’s very much in the same vein as The Beatles: Get Back in that you are seeing musical creation happening before you. The sounds and the moments you loved listening to are now being shown to you and that’s always exciting to see. I still have absolutely no idea why Dan Aykroyd was there, and the documentary doesn’t reveal it either, which is even more of a mystery.

If you love documentaries, especially about music then this is right up your alley.
