Emma and Charlie are blissfully in love. Planning their wedding, choosing the cake, and writing their vows have only brought them closer as they prepare to tie the knot. But when their maid of honor introduces a “fun” challenge, asking everyone to reveal the worst thing they’ve ever done, the happy couple is forced to reexamine everything they thought they knew about each other.
It’s tough to talk about this movie without spoiling moments that are better experienced in the theater, and that’s likely why A24 wisely chose to keep much of it under wraps. What I can say is this is a dark romantic comedy that could only come from a studio like A24, one that asks difficult questions and will have you thinking long after the credits roll.
Both Robert Pattinson and Zendaya are fantastic. The story begins with a balanced look at both perspectives but gradually shifts toward Pattinson’s character as he unravels after learning the truth about Emma. The question I kept coming back to, leaving the theater was, “Can you judge someone by the worst thing they almost did?” It’s not an easy idea, and while “The Drama” explores it effectively, I do wish it had avoided the familiar trope of couples failing to communicate, because if they did, the conflict wouldn’t hit as hard.
I also feel the writing lets Alana Haim’s character, Rachel, off the hook a little too quickly. The more you sit with it, the more it feels like she’s actually the worst one in the group, and the film doesn’t fully challenge that. That lack of follow-through was a bit frustrating, and I wish it had been explored more.
Still, “The Drama” is shocking, funny, and layered, with strong performances across the board. Just make sure you go in knowing as little as possible.

Two college outcasts, Jack and Montgomery, are facing the reality of losing their housing for the next year. The entire school hates them after an incident involving the football team, and nothing they do seems to repair their reputation. But when they discover a mysterious tin of drugs hidden in their ceiling and decide to take them, they suddenly have more to deal with than just bad blood.
This plays like a mix of Superbad, Pineapple Express, and just about any coming-of-age stoner comedy. The performances all work, but the story often feels like an SNL sketch stretched too long. Still, I found myself pulled into the ridiculousness, with the humor landing about 60% of the time, and I was impressed by how committed everyone was to making it a fun ride.
The lack of pizza in the story feels almost criminal, but the fun still makes it worth a watch.

“Invincible” Season 4 sees the beginning of the end for the Viltrumites, the evil group of superbeings that sent Omni-Man to prepare Earth as a new home for their dwindling society. Mark, aka Invincible, grapples with what to do about villains who will never stop terrorizing others, and his increasingly dangerous choices begin to blur his moral compass.
But when Omni-Man returns to Earth, asking Mark to join him in destroying the Viltrumites for good, Mark must set aside both his love and hatred for his father in service of something bigger, the safety of his home and everyone he loves.
“Invincible” continues to push the superhero genre to new heights, even if the animation doesn’t always match the strength of its storytelling. With only a few episodes left this season, it’s easily bingeable and well worth checking out if you haven’t started yet. The level of blood, brutality, and nuanced heroes is something live action superhero stories should be taking notes from.

After nearly a 4-year hiatus due to mandatory military service in South Korea, BTS returns to the stage. This documentary captures their reunion in Los Angeles, where they begin to start production on a new album.
This is a fascinating look into a band rediscovering itself after growing apart. Full of great moments for any BTS fan, but also for non-K-POP officianados like myself, it can work on my level, too.
