SALT LAKE CITY, UT (See It or Skip It) – Samara Weaving returns as Grace, the girl who survived the one thing many newlyweds don’t… in-laws. Except in her case, those in-laws were devil-worshipping murderers tasked with killing her as part of a ritual sacrifice.
In “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come,” we pick up immediately after the events of the first film. Grace quickly learns that not only are more people after her, but she must now face a new wave of Satanists alongside her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton). The stakes are higher, the blood is bigger, and my popcorn bucket was empty by the end. This is a hilarious, brutally entertaining sequel that, in many ways, matches its predecessor.
The first “Ready or Not” thrived as a cult classic with a tight, claustrophobic story. This time, the film expands into something closer to a “John Wick” style of action, blending hand-to-hand combat with relentless cat-and-mouse chaos. Grace has evolved into a battle-worn survivor, taking hits, dishing them out, and becoming alarmingly creative when it comes to staying alive.
The supporting cast of horned henchmen is led by Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Shawn Hatosy (The Pitt), playing siblings vying for power after their father steps down. Their rivalry, mixed with other desperate families clawing for control, leads to some of the most gruesome and inventive kills of the year.
I do wish we had more time with certain characters, especially Kevin Durand, who makes a strong impression despite limited screen time. And now that the franchise leans fully into heightened, almost mythic action, you do have to let go of logic and just ride the chaos. That said, a few moments, particularly involving violence toward women, felt like they pushed past the line from shocking into uncomfortable in a way that didn’t fully serve the story.
Overall, “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” understands exactly what it is and doubles down on it. It’s bigger, bloodier, and bolder, even if it occasionally loses some of the tight control that made the original so sharp.
