SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4) — For this week’s See It or Skip It, ABC4 Film Critic and Tomatometer-Approved Critic Patrick Beatty, along with UFCA critics Rebecca Frost and Kent Dunn, have a balanced meal of content for your weekend. From the return of beloved comedy animation to Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan returning to their Disney roots in “Freaky Friday”. This week is packed with fun, let’s get into it.

What if switching bodies was just the warm-up? Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back, and their lives are about to be swapped once again. This time, generations collide, as Anna’s daughter and potential step-daughter are literally stepping into Anna and her mother’s shoes, and the only way back might be through some serious soul searching. I don’t see how they could have done “Freakier Friday” any better than what they did here. Neither Lohan nor Curtis missed a beat in stepping back into these characters, and for the ones who grew up with the original, this was one of the rare Disney sequels that turned out to be pretty good and worth seeing.

Directed By:

Zach Cregger

Written By:

Zach Cregger

Starring:

Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams

Genre:

Horror

Zach Cregger gives a mind-bending thriller centered around the disappearance of an entire classroom of students. A web of connected stories starts to unfold as we learn what led to the incident. Both Julia Garner and Josh Brolin give impressive performances, and director Zach Creggar proved he’s more than capable of delivering well-structured and story-focused terror in a way that’s as funny as it is scary at times. While the mystery may not provide exactly what was set up in the film’s marketing, “Weapons” is scary, suspenseful, and beautifully shot.

Wednesday Addams returns to Nevermore Academy. This time, it’s a family affair, as Pugley enters school and Gomez and Morticia are always nearby. Wednesday is plagued by a vision she is keen on stopping, but will this sinister new foe test her abilities too far? The first half of the season is available now, and like the first, I love the mystery, the offbeat morbid jokes, and Jenna Ortega again delivers a spellbinding performance as Nevermore Academy’s Sherlock Holmes.

King of the Hill (TV-14)

Where to Watch: Disney+, HULU

Created By:

Mike Judge & Greg Daniels

Starring:

Mike Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Stephen Root

Genre:

Animation, Comedy

Yup. The Hills are back in Arlen, and Texas has not gotten any less Texas. Life has moved on, and Hank and Peggy will have to learn what life is like in 2025. The new “King of the Hill” delivers on the jokes, and while suffering tragic losses of key voice actors, is still able to bring a season worthy of being included in the original’s best.

The Pickup (R)

Where to Watch: Prime Video

Directed By:

Tim Story

Starring:

Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, Keke Palmer

Genre:

Action, Comedy

All media courtesy of Prime Video

A flirt gone wrong turns into a mess in this high-stakes romantic action thriller. Putting in an impressive cast, “The Pickup” fails to deliver on fun and comedic moments, and instead feels bland and underserving of its actors.
