Two possibly in love people who are trapped in a cozy New York apartment agree to play pretend for a weekend. But the awkward tension flips into romantic suspense when ideas of romance are diminished. “Oh, Hi” at times is both hilarious and terrifying as it delves into codependent relationships, and while it may not work some of the time, director Sophie Brooks brings an entertaining and thought-provoking look at how we all exist in our own relationships.

Eva Victor writes, directs, and stars in this dark comedy about friendship, trauma, and moving forward while looking back at the past. This was one of my favorite films at Sundance this year, and I feel it has one of the strongest ensemble casts of the year. “Sorry, Baby” is a beautiful, tragic, yet relatable and hopeful film about the space in between grief and perseverance.

The swing is back, but the knees are creakier. Adam Sandler returns as the hot-tempered golf legend, now a washed-up golfer looking to return in the hopes of paying for his daughter’s dance school. Packed with callbacks and surprise cameos, this sequel aims to serve nostalgia with a double bogey of dumb fun. Classic Sandler fans, this one’s for you. I had real problems with the sheer volume of seemingly pointless cameos that weren’t funny, merely there because of some connection to Adam Sandler. If there were more time put into fleshing out truly compelling parts of the story, like Happy’s relationship to his kids, or just a more focused main plot, then this could have been one of Sandler’s best in quite some time. But sadly, “Happy Gilmore 2” can’t help but throw everything and the kitchen sink into a story that could’ve been good with fewer chaotic cameos.
